Audi A6 Ignition switch.
Apparently, these fail quite often causing a numerous array of electrical-based side effects one being, in this case, the ignition key continuously engaging the starter motor which could lead to a burnt out starter too. It may be difficult to hear when this is happening in these well-insulated automobiles, but if you have trouble engaging “park” (i.e. you will hear a grinding noise from the transmission) then this may be the culprit.
A short-term remedy would be to rotate the key back to it’s “on” position each time the vehicle is started. If you are having other bizarre electrical problems then you may want to replace the part as soon as possible.
The replacement part is inexpensive, and you should be able to swap out the part in about 15 minutes if you know what you are doing to about 30+ minutes if you are skillful at disassembly but just not automotive-inclined.
